Chapter 1 of My New Book!

UPDATE: You missed it! Check back here again tomorrow evening, just in case I have more surprises. :)

Launch Week Surprise 1? I gave away a Parker pen.
Launch Week Surprise 2 ... I'm giving away the first chapter of my new book.

Click here and type in the pass phrase, which is ... Word Nerd Preview (type it as it appears - with spaces and caps) I've taken it down now. Well done if you got it! Feel free to leave a comment below if you pick one up. If I get lots of comments, I might even be inspired to give away some more stuff. :)

Hope you like it.

Loved it Rebecca! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the full book! :) Any idea when you'll put it into print?

First Comment ... Yay sorry couldn't read the chapter till now .. you know couldn't get to the password .. but will give you feedback once that's done.. all the best for the book..

I'm SO pleased you liked it, Paul. :) Whether it goes into print or not depends to some extent how well the e-book does. I may bring out a print version in the summer, or I might leave it until Christmas. Next step, once this is out in a couple of days, is getting Book II edited and out in e-book format.

Thanks Vikas. :)

Intriguing...I think I prefer the black and white pencil drawing for the cover too. Love the use of other senses :o)

Well, that was an rather emotional read. Congrats on the release. I'm certain you'll do fab with it, if that opening chapter is anything to go by.

Hi Lexx. Glad you find it intriguing. That's my favourite word. :) The pic is the internal picture for the e-book. The front cover will appear in greyscale on the e-book - so you get the best of both worlds.

Jabelfield. It is rather emotional. You have to throw some stones at them first. Things get rather more jolly later. Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.

I don't have an e-Book Reader till now being in India and can't read on my bloody monitor screen thing is too bright .. But Very Good Attempt and just like Jabelfield ..I am sure if you carry down the form from the first chapter I am sure it will be wonderful.. keep the Good work up

Really enjoyable read Rebecca, images of Miss Havisham came to mind at one point! Definitely makes me want to read more - all the best with the book launch! :)

Rebecca Woodhead said...

Charley, I'm SO glad you mentioned Miss Havisham. I was thinking of her at 'that' point. I wanted to make Mary a bit more active about the decay of the dress than Miss H was though, hence the dress attack! :)

Right. I'm going to take this down again in a minute. Just wanted to give some of my chums the chance to get it free. Thanks for all the lovely comments, both here and on Twitter. The book will be out by mid-week next week. xxx

I love it!! I know people who are like she was at the beginning, and yet I feel sorry for her. I definitely want to read this book to see what happens next! Thanks!

Rebecca Woodhead said...

I'm glad! I feel like that about her. She has quite a journey, and she was a very wilful character to write, but I threw some interesting friends in, to help her out. It was fun to write. :)

Almost two hours now, so I'm closing the door. Well done if you grabbed it. The book will be available in ePub and Kindle editions by mid-week next week. Can't wait to see what you think of the dog, and the predicament he causes. :)

Be sure to let me know when you re-post it or when I can get a peek at it Bex. The comments are making me even more curious!

Kim, I love it that you're curious.I'll let you know. :)

Oh your word pictures!!! I actually read some of it out loud (ok, pathetic I know but I ADORE the Sound of words!)

And what a story!!
See, THIS is why I don't usually read good fiction ~ when it's as luscious and intriguing as this, I get drawn in and nothing else matters. Kids starve. House falls down around my ears. I can only think of the next chapter.

GIMME THE NEXT CHAPTER SOOOOOON!!!

LOL! Thank you Jacqui! I'm so glad the word 'intriguing' is coming up so often. I wanted to write something intriguing as it is my favourite word. Since so many people are using it, I thought I'd celebrate the book launch by buying it. Hubby left me in charge of buying food for tonight, but ... oops... I spent £15 adopting the word 'intriguing' from a charity that helps children with speech problems. Given my own history, it felt the right way to celebrate the launch. Thank you so much for your comment, and support. xxx
